H.R. Emi
H.R. Emi is a visual artist in Yakima, Washington, she specializes in painting and drawing. Emi’s work explores themes of identity, memory, and language. She creates art with the intention of capturing a disruption of emotion through everyday moments. Her work captures snapshots of familiarity with liminal spaces that tell a portion of an interactive narrative. Born in Yakima Valley, a region with never-ending rolling hills blanketed with small agricultural towns, Emi grew up with immigrant parents working the land. Surrounded by apple orchards and hop fields within this valley. Latine make-up half of Yakima County's population, but that was unnoticed to Emi until she began venturing out of the valley. It became apparent that there was a lack of latine vision, voice, and creativity even within her own town. As a first-generation Mexican-American and oldest daughter of her parents; Emi decided to pursue her dream– to be an artist.
