Jovita Mercado
Jovita is a mixed medium Chicana artist. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Washington.
After graduating, she went on to create public artwork for the City of Seattle, Burien, and Sea Tac. She was also an Art Instructor for the YMCA and Metro Parks. Through these organizations, she taught children art theory, art history, and various artforms from painting to soft sculpture.
She is currently based in Vancouver, WA furthering her interest in digital design, illustration, and early childhood education. Her work is influenced by her upbringing in Yakima, WA, an agricultural town that is filled with a rich history and pride for Mexican culture. Her work has evolved through the influence of L.A. Chicano culture, Kawaii aesthetic and memes. But no matter what form her work takes, she will never forget - that enjoying the process of creating art is what is most important.
