Grace Hamada
I am a Seattle based artist who has been using various art media for more than 25 years. My art is designed by nature, my heritage, and landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. I started making art using different materials (such as rust, hair, rice, etc) to express ideas that words were insufficient to convey. To better capture the "atmosphere" that I experience outdoors, I have focused on mixed-media art making. Much of my art making uses material directly related to my Japanese heritage, such as using pearl rice in paintings or images reflecting family through food. In addition to art making, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, kayaking, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing.
